Debating the Structural Choices of Writers.

I was looking at all the poems in terms of structure when I realized just how varied they are.  The Snowman and The Marvel have very similar structures; the only difference in being that the Snowman is 3 stanzas shorter then The Marvel.

 I think that the shorter poem the snowman, is shorter for a reason i think that the author Walter Stevens could have gone on and on describing to us all the ways in which winter is empty, I think the author kept it short because that's what we always hope winter to be- short (or it could be that the life of every snowman is short). Arguably the best part of winter; the thanksgiving to Christmas stretch, is in fact very short, but the bulk of winter January-march/April (depending on where you live) is always far longer.

The Marvel is also very different in structure. It's organized much in the same way that the iceman is; 3 line stanzas of which there are 8. The half rhyme scheme thought which it uses only serves to make the poem more disjointed and less cohesive as a work; but this was a choice. Free verse would have flowed much better and a full rhyme would have made it a little too goofy and less serious then i think the author wanted it to be.

The Tempest is very different from both the first, it is split into two stanzas in which both the first and the second are in a different tense and they are both irregularly sized. there is no viewable rhyme scheme. And I think this adds to the beauty of this free verse poem by making it less about the way in which it is written and more about the words themselves. the off hand structure of this poem allows the reader to immerse themselves emotionally into the story which the author is telling. . The Tempest is by far my favorite of the three poems, with The Snowman coming at a close second.
