Week 4- The Sock

This piece to me screams regret and a woman having a hard time moving on. She is territorial and refers to people and things as "my.." or "mine. The first line sets the selfish atmosphere "my husband is married to a different woman now..." she does not refer to him as her ex husband. The voice in this piece compares herself to the new wife, degrading herself but is described as acting civil with them on the outside. Now, the most interesting point the speaker talks about is what his wife leaves behind. "A red comb,  a red lipstick, and a bottle of pills". I don't understand the speaker would not just send these back to her, pills (hopefully for a medical reason) are important to a person's well being most of the time. She states how she just keep forgetting to ask about them and eventually stuck them in a drawer. What I am questioning also is the sentence at the end of the piece "because by then it wasn't going to be long, and it made me tired all over again just to think of it". It wasn't going to be long until what? Were they going to visit again? Why? How often does this happen? If this is a usual occurrence then I empathize with the woman because she cannot move on if her husband keeps coming around and visiting with his new wife.
