Week 7: notes of a nitive son,

For me the piece "Notes of A Native Sons" compared to the others seemed much more sentimental. the entire story the speaker is talking about how much he hates his father, and we sort of see him become his father through his violent actions. another way that we see him become like his father is when he says that he hadn't been home in almost a year by the time he went back to see his father before he died. We know from the emptiness of the funeral and the church that the father isolated himself from previous Friends and loved ones, the speaker sounds like he is well on his way to that, already moving away and spending such little time with his family.  We see his actions showing up the the funeral drunk and throwing the pitcher at the waitress in a fit of anger, much like he describes his father going off on tangents. The entire story its self leaves me with the one question, or rather with the lurking suspicion: if we don't grow to understand our parents we are doomed to become just like them?
