Week 7- "September"
This was a short piece, but also one that held a lot of significance within the words. It seemed as if you had to read between the lines to figure out what it was exactly that the author was attempting to portray. The first sentence stuck me to be a bit odd, " Laid out perfectly where they fell in the tall grass, half sunk in the ground-". As I read this, I depicted the bones floating in mid air and then falling into the ground. Bones don't show up from thin air and float in the air, then drop. It just seemed odd and perhaps simply because the wording could have been written with a better flow to it. I found it very interesting how Purpura described the cat in, " The shape of sleep, of full and open expectancy, mid-stride in an airy leap.". It was a very specific line as if the author wanted the audience to image a sleeping peaceful animal as it seems in the piece that the cats time to live has come and gone, so it is to be laid to rest just as it looked when it slept. This was an overall great piece of writing and was concise yet depicted a peaceful death, almost to tell the audience to embrace it and not be afraid.
